Baby got some ink on her

Thanks to Blog Goggles for giving me the inspiration to write a post about tattoos. At the current time I have 3 tattoos and I am not at the point of regretting any of them and am hopeful that I never will. I think tattoos can be a beautiful piece of art if done the right way and put in the correct location on the body. That being said... A beautiful tattoo in the wrong place = trashy. And a trendy tattoo even in the best location = eventual regret.

I'm a big supporter of body art and body piercing. If you want it, get it. Don't let society hold you down. We should all have the freedom and courage to be individuals. That is what makes us beautiful. However, if you want to be in a profession where this type of thing is not easily accepted it may be harder for you to be able to express yourself this way and you'll have to either get tattoos or piercings which are easily hid (or find a differenty job). I know that 2 of my tattoos are probably a complete mystery to all my co-workers, bosses and customers and that is probably a good thing since I work in the conservative banking industry.

So now it is time for a little show and tell.

The first tattoo I ever got is on my lower back which has so lovingly become known as the "tramp stamp" location. Let me state that when I got this tattoo I was 20 and it was a very trendy place to get one and was not called a "tramp stamp" yet. Do I regret it though? Not at all. I got what I believe is a very tasteful tattoo and symbolic of what I want in life = love. It's a simple black heart and about 1 inch wide by 2 inches long and I love it.

The second tattoo I got with my twin sister, Kara. The significance behind this one is that we designed it together and got them together when we were about 22 (I think). We both have it on our left foot so we even have twin tattoos. :) It was a lot of fun!
The last tattoo I got in Sturgis in August 2007. Kara and I had said we weren't leaving Sturgis without getting another tattoo together so on the last day we were there we went and found one of the several little tattoo parlors (the place we picked had a free beer w/ purchase, classy I know, but that was why we picked it! Priorities people!) and we sat down at the same time and had them done on the back of our necks. This one we designed together as well but it actually has a meaning behind it too. It is a roman numeral II for the Gemini sign. Since we are twins AND Geminis we were set on getting this. I think this one is my favorite just b/c of the location and the fact that it has meaning behind it.

So there you have it. My 3 tats. I want to get another one but the hubs is saying anymore and I may start to look like a crack whore (ok, those weren't his exact words but whatever). I'll continue to ponder it though and I'm sure I'll probably end up with another one at some point or another. They truly are addicting. Once you get one you immediately start thinking of where you are going to get the next one.

As for piercings I have 1 in my left ear, 2 in my right ear (there is a story behind that but this post is already getting too long) and my belly button. I took out my belly button one for about a week not too long ago but I couldn't stop staring at my empty belly button and thinking it looked weird and naked so I put it back in. And I used to have one on the top of my left ear but I took that out quite a while ago b/c it was starting to look like I had a nipple growing on top of my ear. That's hot, right?

So my friends, tell me about your tattoos or piercings and what you like or don't like. I personally like a man with a couple tats. I think they can be totally sexy. They just have to make sure it's not some barbed wire arm band or something totally douchey.*
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Okay, this is long enough. I leave for Europe tomorrow & I am shitting bricks I'm so excited. I can't wait to see Wade AND Europe! So please don't be mad at me b/c I won't be visiting your blogs again until the 14th or so. I honestly do love you but seriously, I will not be checking in while in Europe (although I do still have a few posts written and saved up to post while I'm gone just for ya'll!). This is my vacation away from EVERYTHING!!! So please... Don't hater-aide. I'll be back soon, will be posting a plethora of pictures (I'm sure) and I love you guys!

Au revoir my luvs!
*If any of you have a barbed wire arm band, I didn't mean to be rude. I'm sorry. But probably not as sorry as you are for getting it in the first place. Am I right? :)

such a great post! I love the Gemini neck tat. I've often thought of getting the Gemini symbol as well. I love tattoos. I don't regret any of mine and I definitely don't think people place such stigmas on them any more.

The gemini one is beautiful. I love it! So honestly, how bad did the one on the foot hurt? I'm thinking about getting one, but the pain keeps holding me back. I'd love to get one on my neck, but having needles going that close to my spine... not happening. My bf hates tattoos, but I've worn him down into letting me get one so long as its small. I love tattoos on guys (and eyebrow piercings are my weakness) but the boy refuses :(

I have nothing against tattoos, either. I've always wanted one, but I've never really thought of anything I'd want on my body for the rest of my life.

About the closest thing I could come up with is the ND leprechaun.

I also have a lower back tat and got it when I turned 18 because I could, its a chinese symbol that means "pain & love." For all I know it means "dumb biatch!" It was a great idea at the time and was not known as a tramp stamp. I also have my son's name tattooed on my hip. Both are areas that are hidden and only I can choose who can see them. I'm ready for another one though and thinking that the foot is a good idea!

Great post! I love your tattoos, they are really feminine and pretty.

I think you already know about my tattoos (celtic heart on my hip, "let it enfold you" on my arm). I love them. I have my ears pierced, my industrial, and my nipples (oops! sorry mom!)

Also, a guy with nice tattoos? Bend me over.

PS someone tell liferehab to get a tattoo if she wants it! no one should need their boyfriend's permission.

Maegan - Agreed. Stigmas are definitely not what they used to be! Which is great!

liferehab - Read BWP's comment. If you want one, get one! It's your body, your choice! And don't let him tell you what to get either. Get whatever you want! And no, they don't hurt that bad. It's actually kind of a good pain if that makes any sense. :)

iNDefatigable - Do it! But if you regret it forget I said anything! :)

devin's mom - Ah, the Chinese symbol... Maybe it means "lo mein"! Those dang Chinese! :)

aimee - What is your tattoo of?

BWP - Bend me over right along side ya! :) Dirty! And I love your newest tat on your arm!

I have a dragon on my back it's probably about 16"x7" and I have intials going down my tricep in old english.

I actually love a girl with tattoos. Kat Von D? Yes, please.

They are so cute and tiny! I agree with Matt.

I also have the dreaded "tramp stamp" tattoo. But much like you, I was in my early 20's and that super endearing term hadn't been invented yet. However, while I don't necessarily regret the experience of getting it, I did do it for a reason such that if I was ever sick of it, I wouldn't have it staring me in the eye every day. And since I don't particularly care for looking at my big bare ass, it's a win/win situation. :)

I have one on my inner thigh that says 'property of Bill.'

Tequila blackouts suck sometimes.

Love your tattoos! I've been thinking about getting one for some time, but always chicken out! Found you on some guy's blog babe site. A rather dubious award, but I've never won anything, so I guess it's better than nothing at all.

I love how thoughtful your tattoos are.

I have a little purple flower on my ankle...yep, got it when I was 18, has no significance what so ever. I'd get another one though.

Have the BEST time with your man in Europe!! I cannot wait to see pictures and hear crazy stories! Be safe!

I've got a three-leaf clover/shamrock outline on my left hip. Some also call mine a tramp stamp and I'm sure I'll dislike it slightly if it shifts in shape but I think it's awesome right now! I was such a weenie as I couldn't stand to get it filled in. I want another one for sure - just like you said about planning the next one. I'm thinking something smallish on my middle back - maybe a tasteful/not white trashy California poppy.

i have five tattoos (and am not even close to being a crack whore, i mean if you don't count those times) anyway, yes i also have one on my lower back WAY before "tramp stamp" became a popular nickname. i'd also like to mention that i'm a twin too! except my twin remains tattoo free (goody-goody).
