Our 1st Not Well Doctor Visit

Well, we made it nearly 6 full months without having to go to the doctor for a not well visit but Friday night all hell started to break loose. I was home with Charlie for the day and she was acting fine (although she had a cough and runny/stuffy nose) until 4:30 hit and then she was inconsolable.

I tried everything in my mommy mind. Rocking, bouncing, feeding, napping, burping, etc, etc, etc and nothing would get her to stop crying. Finally around 6:30 she had cried herself into exhaustion and fell asleep for 30 minutes during which Wade called the on call nurse line. They suggested Tylenol and saline nose drops to try to open up her airway better. So when Charlie woke at 7:00 and instantly went back to crying mode we promptly gave her Tylenol and saline drops and waited. Longest 20 minutes ever but she eventually calmed down enough to take a small bottle and fell asleep until midnight. We gave her more Tylenol at that time and a little more formula and she crashed until 6:00 when she woke up screaming again. Luckily we were able to get her into the doctor at 9:45 and it was determined that she has an ear infection that was most likely brought on by her cold. Also, the doc weighed her and she weighed in at a whopping 14 pounds 11 oz. I knew she was getting heavier b/c boy is she getting hard to carry in that car seat!

So poor Charlie monkey has her first (and hopefully not one of many to come) ear infection. She seems to be handling things like a champ now as she is on amoxicillin for 10 days. Although this morning she did gag when I gave her the medicine and she threw up about an ounce of formula all over herself (outfit change) and the car seat (that was fun to clean out) just before we left for daycare. So she is not a fan of bubble gum flavor it seems. Thankfully she's a trooper and is acting like her cheerful self again because Wade and I have been spoiled with an easy baby girl who rarely cries and so when she does cry we don't know how to handle it very well. It stresses me out plus it makes me nervous and worry about Charlie.

I'd say that going this long without her getting majorly sick was really lucky! Before now she's only had a minor cold and the flu which she also handled like a champ and only threw up once and otherwise just acted tired. So we must have one tough cookie on our hands!

For the rest of my news: bullet points.

* She still is not a huge fan of tummy time and eventually ends up like this or crying.

* I found a 2nd hand Bumbo at Once Upon A Child and bought it right before Charlie got sick on Friday and she LOVES it. We then went and got a tray for it and put her toys on it and she goes crazy having so much fun being able to sit and grab at all her toys. It's so fun to watch her.

* She definitely has her daddy's pretty blue eyes.

*She also has definitely found her thumb and we have a thumb sucker on our hands. It's kind of nice b/c she always has it with her so we don't have to worry about her crying about dropping a pacifier or whatever b/c she never took to those. It's really cute to see her sucking her thumb too I just hope it's not a too hard habit to break once she's older.

With Grandma B sucking her thumb

*Anything and EVERYTHING goes straight into her mouth. She's been like this for quite a while now but seriously it's ridiculous!

* She found her feet a few weeks back and now is constantly trying to eat them as well as everything else she touches.

Combining two of her loves: her bouncy chair and her feet

* This weekend we are getting our first family photos taken. It will be one day before Charlie's 6 month birthday so it's perfect timing and I'm really looking forward to how they turn out. Now I just have to figure out what we are all going to wear! I'll be sure to post some once we get them!

* She likes her new horsey. She already has another one for when she's bigger and can sit up on her own. She's mega spoiled.

Ride 'em Charlie!

*Other things she likes: being naked, smooches, tummy kisses, pulling my hair out, talking, sweet potatoes, bath time, peek-a-boo, farting and burping (at least I assume she likes farting and burping b/c she always does it), and standing up like a big girl.

I'm outty~

Say Cheese!

Well hello everybody!

Amazingly Charlie is nearing 6 months old already! I can't believe how fast the time is going by! We are scheduling some family portraits to be taken close to her birthday so she and I have to practice on getting her to sit up on her own. She is almost there but usually topples over about 5 seconds after I let her go. She still loves to stand (assisted) and has even stood w/o my help by holding onto our ottoman! She's getting so strong!

She has now tried several different solids. Besides oatmeal she's had peas (she does NOT like peas), carrots, sweet potatoes, prunes and bananas. This picture below was taken about 2 minutes before she threw up all the peas and formula she had just eaten (I'm not sure what the smile was all about since she obviously didn't like what she was eating, maybe she was picturing what she was about to do to me, or maybe she's just a REALLY happy baby). I was lucky enough to catch about 75% of it in her burp cloth since I saw her start gagging and got the burp cloth in position just in time, so clean up was fairly easy to do, but boy was it gross. I will not be attempting peas with her again anytime soon.

She's still in love w/ her bouncy chair and goes ape shit nuts in it. I swear she's going to fling herself out of it she gets to bouncing so hard! She also loves the bumbo at daycare so tomorrow we are going to go try to find a 2nd hand one b/c I cannot justify spending $40 on a new one that she will use for MAYBE a month. Generally she's just a really happy and easy going girl! We are very lucky to have such a sweet pea!

In other news I am fairly sure that Kobe is almost completely deaf. I need to call the vet to get him in and see if it is anything that can be fixed. He's old (8 years) but not THAT old. Although he doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all and he still acts the same as always just that he doesn't respond to me unless I'm screaming at him. It makes me sad though that he is obviously aging. My little shadow has become an old man. :( Luckily other than that he is still healthy and should have many more years to lick my feet to sleep (a bad and odd habit of his).

Well, I hope all is well w/ the rest of ya'll! Catch ya on the flip side!

And we're back!

Puerto Rico was AWESOME! Kara and Todd's wedding was perfect. Reverend Wade (yep, I'm married to a Reverend of the Universal Life Church, ha!) did a spectacular job on the ceremony. The best wedding ceremony I've ever heard! Kara looked gorgeous and like she should be in a picture in a bridal magazine. The weather was perfection at 80 degrees and sunny every day and the pina coladas were the best I've ever had. The only thing that was wrong was I missed my Charlie monkey. But it was well worth it. The smile I got from her when she woke up and saw me on Wed morning was PRICELESS.

We went on a tour of the rainforest and also kayaked into a bioluminesence bay (I'm 99% sure I spelled that wrong). It's the water that glows from algae when it is disturbed. Very cool! Other than that we drank a lot, ate some Puerto Rican food (Mofongo is delish!) and cherished the sun. Two hangovers in 5 days isn't too bad, is it? We even skinny dipped in the ocean and stayed up until 5 am on Kara and Todd's wedding night. Who says we're old farts now!?!?

So who wants to see some pics? I've got a couple hundred!

And now, to enjoy the high of 1 degree today. Man I miss that weather...
Adios amigos!

5 Months Old!

Happy 5 Month Birthday Charlie Monkey!

Charlie is now eating like a chow hound and we have started her on baby oatmeal. I can't say she's a huge fan of it as most of it comes right back out but she seems to have fun trying it. Another bonus is it grosses Wade out and makes him gag which is always funny to watch. :)

Charlie has also mastered rolling from front to back and has rolled from back to front once. Although she's not a fan of that move since she'd still rather be on her back than tummy. She LOVES to stand. If you hold her up on her feet she will get the hugest smile on her face and get so excited. I love to see her get excited as she does not hold it back one bit. It's the cutest thing ever.

She is still the drool queen so she wears a bib 99% of the time. We often go through 3-4 bibs a day since they get drool soaked. Pretty gross but I now know why we got SO many bibs at our baby showers! I used to look at the pile and think there was no way we would ever need this many bibs and now I look at the pile and think, crap, we need to buy more bibs! :)

She is also getting quite the personality and is giggling more often which is the greatest sound ever! She really likes it when we pretend to sneeze, cough or just make weird little noises while we fling our head back. The simple things I guess!

In other news, Puerto Rico is only 1 week away! I've lost a pound since my last post and will hopefully lose another 1-2 before then and I'll just have to be happy with that. Hopefully my spray tan that I'm going to go get will hide some of my cellulite. :) But you know what? Get enough drinks in me in 80 degree weather and I doubt I'll care for long. Who would?

Lata dudes~

Puerto Rico!!!

Holy balls folks. We leave for Puerto Rico in less than 2 weeks!!! I desperately need to lose like 8 more pounds. I'll settle for 5. Tell me what I need to do! A bikini!?!?! At 5 months post pregnancy?!?!?! I know some people are like "Huh? That was PLENTY of time for you to be back in shape you fatty!" And I know, I know. I really should have picked up the pace earlier but I procrastinate. I always have and I don't see that changing anytime soon. So don't preach to me about my slacking in the shape up department, I know already. I need tips! What is the best way to tone this tummy in just under 2 weeks? (And I don't want to hear about any home enemas. I am not willing to do that.)

Also, please tell me what I need to do so that I don't miss Charlie like CRAZY while we are gone. I'm assuming that drinking insane amounts of alcohol on the beach will help. Any other ideas? B/c this face will be SO missed!!!
