"Dammit Mommy. You know I hate tummy time! Get me off of my belly now! If you don't flip me onto my back stat I will bawl uncontrollably and spit up all over my play mat. If you know what's good for you, you will flip me over right this second!"

"Now this is what I'm talking about. I've got you wrapped around my little finger. Ahahahaha! (evil baby laugh)""Now put me in my bouncy chair devil woman. I want to bend it like Beckham and kick my monkey feet. Bounce, bounce, everybody bounce!"

(Needless to say, she always gets what she wants. I'm so screwed.)

I want to try to document some of the stuff that our little Charlie Bear does and has accomplished in her eventful 3 months of life thus far so that we/she can look back on this and say what a great and silly little baby she was!

Hanging with her bro

* She smiles constantly now. If you look her way and she catches your eye a grin will automatically light up on her face and it is priceless. Sometimes even when I'm feeding her I'll look down at her and she's stopped sucking and is just laying there smiling up at me w/ the bottle still in her mouth. She’s such a ham. :)
* She will coo and talk to me nonstop. Sometimes she even talks to the TV! I think we’re going to have a gabby little peanut on our hands once she learns to talk!
* She finally reached out and grasped a toy for the first time on the 27th! She’d been swatting at them a lot before then but finally got her little fingers wrapped around it. Although she didn’t know she was holding it and promptly hit herself in the forehead with the toy thus causing her to startle and look at me like WTF Mommy?
* She’s still not rolling over and I think it’s b/c she HATES tummy time. She’s perfectly content on her back and side and I don’t think she even wants to try to roll over. She’s a little stinker!
* She sleeps with both arms up above her head and it is adorable.
* When she pukes it is seriously like she is in the Exorcist. It is scary and gross and gaggy. I hope that crap stops soon, even though she doesn’t do it often, it is awful.
* She kicks her legs and moves her arms so much that it looks like she is having a damn seizure. I knew we’d have an active baby just based on what she was like while still in utero, but damn girl, she is wild. Get her under her play mat or in her bouncey seat and she goes nuts!
* She is very vain. She loves to look at herself in the mirror and coo and smile at herself. It’s hilarious. She must think she is one good looking baby (which I totally agree with). :)
* She has long grown out of newborn clothes and diapers! She’s growing so fast!
* Her little monkey toes are so long (like her Daddy’s) that her feet don’t fit in all of the footy pj’s that we have so some of them don’t work! Finger toes! :)
* She’s definitely found her hands and loves to shove them in her mouth and sometimes does not know her limit and gags herself with them. She's even found her thumb now which I hope does not lead to a horrible thumb sucking habit but at least she's not attached to the paci.
* She’s also found her tongue and will lick anything that is in front of her mouth. Usually this is her bib or shirt which she tongues constantly and thus is left w/ a giant wet spot on her chest. Gross but funny to watch.
* She loves football. She will sit and watch football with us for hours just lounging on our stomachs.
* Her wild Danny DeVito hair style is still in full effect. We thought she’d lose some or all of her hair but nope, it’s still there except for in the front. And the long stuff sticks straight up and looks wild. I love it! She's definitely one of a kind!
* Her eyes have turned a steel blue and are beautiful. I hope they stay that color!
* We finally gave her a bath without using the newborn sling last week and she LOVED it! She loved sitting in the water and having me pour warm water all over her belly. Now I want to take her swimming in a pool! But the first thing she always does when put in the water is pee. Gross. But at least it's not poop... yet! :)
* She is finally noticing Kobe and will smile when she looks at him. He is still ignoring her and stealing her Boppy.

Well, that is all I can think of for now. She’s becoming more and more fun to interact with since she is noticing things more now. And her smiles still give me a high. I think she’s just the greatest little baby we could have ever asked for.

How you know you have a lazy dog...

Firsts

This morning I dropped Charlie off at daycare for the very first time. It was so hard to leave her there! It’s like you are handing your whole life over to someone you barely know and trusting them to care for it like you would. I’m sure she will do fine and probably even grow to love it there but it is hard on me! I finally had to just leave b/c I was starting to cry! And now when I think about her there I start to tear up so I’m trying my hardest not to think of her. (But that is impossible). I know, I’m a wuss.

Last night was Charlie’s first Halloween! She was a bumble bee and absolutely adorable! She’s so long though that she was already too big for the costume! Her legs couldn’t straighten out all the way and it was size 0-6 months! I’m not sure where she’s getting this height from. Definitely not me.

Anyway, things are busy around our house. Kara’s wedding is fast approaching and thus all the fun wedding activities are all going on. We’ve gone to 2 showers already and her bachelorette party is coming up on the 13th. That will be a lot of fun! And then after that it seems like it’s holiday season already and we’ll have to get started on the Christmas shopping! I can’t wait for Charlie’s first Christmas! She’ll be too young to really enjoy the gifts and all that but it will be so fun still! And then in January is the actual wedding down in Puerto Rico! We’ve got a lot ahead of us on our calendars and we are so blessed! Can’t wait for all this fun!

(Not) Wordless Wednesday

Charlie - 9 1/2 weeks old

Charlie and I had a great time in Des Moines last weekend. Kara had her 2nd bridal shower in Harlan that we went to and Charlie was great throughout it. She loves to look at people and will smile at anyone who smiles at her. I'm so glad we have such a happy girl! :) My mom and I did a little bit of shopping for Charlie. I no longer shop for myself. It's not as much fun! Baby girl clothes are so much cuter (plus I've still got about 14 pounds to lose before I start spending money on clothes for myself). So Charlie got some more clothes added to her ever expanding wardrobe. But she really does need them b/c she is growing like a weed! The pile of clothes that she no longer fits in is growing by the day! In fact Wade said she looked like she had grown over the weekend since he hadn't seen her since Friday! I believe it too b/c she's eating like a champ!

We got back home on Monday night and took Kobe into the vet yesterday morning for a teeth cleaning. He was in dire need of one. His breath just about made you keel over from the stench. He had one molar in the back that was rotten and needed to be pulled and he is a new man-dog now! Yay!

This is my last week off on maternity leave and I am dreading going back to work. I don't want to leave Charlie. I've got very mixed feelings about it all. Luckily Wade is taking off next week so it's one more week we get to have without putting her into daycare yet but I am not looking forward to the day we do. I think we picked a great daycare but there is still something unnerving about handing your little one over to a complete stranger and putting your trust into them! I already know I will be a mess that morning when we drop her off... I am so thankful that I am able to switch to part time upon my return to work so it's only 3 days of Charlie being in daycare. I would miss my days with her so much if I weren't able to do this!

Other than that there isn't much new in our household. Just living one day at a time and watching our little nugget grow. I can't believe she is already almost 11 weeks old. It's so much fun to get smiles and coos out of Charlie. It's like cocaine. It's addicting. :) Now I'm just waiting for that first giggle and for her to roll over. She's gotten close on both but not quite there just yet.

ISU's good luck charm

Last weekend Charlie went to her first ISU football game. She did great and seemed to have a fun time tailgating and hanging out with everyone. She's definitely into crowds and watching people. I think we've got a social butterfly on our hands! She was probably one of the tiniest ISU fans in attendance and we attribute her presence to ISU's kick ass performance! We beat Texas Tech 52-38! Can you believe that score? Not sure who was really dressed in ISU's football jerseys b/c that is definitely not our team! :) We never pull off scores like that! So it must have been Charlie's good luck vibes even though she fell asleep the second we sat down in our seats. But seriously, w/ a fan this cute how can we not win?

Then Sunday was Kara's first bridal shower. It was a lot of fun to get to see all our friends! Charlie got dressed up for the occasion and was a big hit with all the ladies.

And finally I missed posting about Charlie's 2 month birthday! I got her dressed up and took some adorable pictures of her. She really is growing fast! Her 2 month check up has her weighing in at 11 pounds 3 oz and she is 23.5 inches long! That puts her in the 59th %tile for weight and 87th %tile for height. She's a big girl! I'm still not sure where she is getting that height from b/c I'm basically a midget but oh well! :)
